MCCA TROPHY Cornwall on course for quarter finals

cornwall cricket logoVictory against Bedfordshire at Cople Argus Cricket Club today (1100) would enable Cornwall to reach the 2013 Minor Counties Cricket Association Knockout Trophy quarter-finals.

Cornwall's cricketers - Minor Counties Championship champions last summer - kept their MCCA KO Trophy hopes alive with a thrilling 16-run group 1 win at Challow & Childrey CC against Oxfordshire while Beds lost by three wickets to table-topping Hertfordshire at Harpenden yesterday.

Cornwall made 226-8 in their 50 overs with Jake Libby on 45 and Neil Curnow 47 before Chris Hunkin hit a valuable 53 and Rob Harrison 28 not out.

Oxfordshire were on target until a late collapse saw their last six wickets fall for 21 runs. Cornwall captain Tom Sharp took 5-29 as the hosts were dismissed for 210 in the final over.

Wales remain top of group 4 with three wins from three ahead of their final match at home to Berkshire at The Mumbles Cricket Club, Swansea next Sunday.

Dorset (238) are fourth in group 4 following their home defeat by Staffordshire (259-9) at Dean Park yesterday. Dorset's final group game is against Buckinghamshire at Tring next Sunday.

Wiltshire's Trophy campaign ended yesterday with a fourth successive group 2 defeat, by four wickets against table-topping Shrosphire at Oswestry CC. Neil Clark scored 126no for Wiltshire, bowled out for 245 in the 35th over. Shropshire reached 250-6 in the 40th over to win.

 Apart from the ECB Cornwall Premier League there should also be a full programme of league club cricket in Cornwall today – weather permitting!
