VINTER CUP St Just repeat final win over Falmouth

St Just CC retained the Vinter Cup at Camborne last night in one of the closest finals for years.

The holders beat Falmouth CC - last year's beaten finalists - by five wickets with only three balls to spare.

Falmouth made a modest 115-8 thanks to opener Kieran Rodda, last out for 51.

Their hopes suffered a big blow when St Just's Justin Stephens removed county players Christian Purchase and Antony Angove in successive balls in the eighth over.

With Purchase and Jordan Thomas bowling tight spells St Just were only 41-3 at the halfway stage.

They still needed 24 off the last three overs and six off the last but man-of-the-match Gavin Edwards guided them home with a fine 68 not out.

Glyn Furnival only conceded 16 runs in his four overs.

St Just will now play Callington CC in the WT Edwards Cup Final next Wednesday at Truro CC.

Tonight the attention switches to the Andrew Cup semi-finals.

Hayle CC seconds host Wendron CC and Penzance CC seconds are at home to Helston CC seconds (both 1830 starts).
