SNELL SHINES AS CORNWALL DRAW WITH WALES

Paul's Kelvin Snell scored an unbeaten century and took six wickets on the third and final day as Cornwall drew their home Minor Counties Championship match with Wales at Falmouth CC.

 

Cornwall made 293 in the first innings and then declared at 302-9 opening the door of opportunity for Wales MC to make 321 to win the Western Division clash.

 

As it was the visitors finished on 220-9 with Snell taking 6-65 after scoring 101 not out.

 

Snell's super ton - off 99 balls - included seven sixes and six fours.

 

In the first innings, Wales recovered from 114-5 to make 275 all out, leaving Cornwall a slender lead of 18 runs.

 

Cornwall skipper Tom Sharp (Truro) bowled unchanged to take 5-90 from 39 overs.

 

Cornwall slumped to 20 for four in their second innings but Sharp made 48 and Dan Davis 76 not out as they ended the second day on 155 for 6.

  

Cornwall were rescued by Keith Parsons on the opening day. The former Somerset player cracked a superb 146 not out as the home side ended the first innings on 293 after being 45-4 before Parsons started his unbeaten century-plus.

 

Result: Cornwall 293 (KA Parsons 146no) & 302-9 (Snell 101no) Wales MC 275 & 220-9 (Snell 6-65). Match drawn.

 

Cornwall return to Minor Counties Championship action at St Austell on Sunday July 24, when the visitors are Shropshire (1100, Wheal Eliza).
