Plymouth boss Carl Fletcher praised his young greens as the Pilgrims progressed to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area quarter-finals following tonight’s 2-1 home win over Aldershot.
Joe Lennox’s inch perfect pass enabled Paris Cowan-Hall to score after 33 seconds.
Fletcher said: “If you give Joe the ball he is likely to do that, he showed what he is capable of although he tired in the second half.
“We got the ball to him four times in the first half and scored twice from it.
“I was pleased for Joe and for Paris to get his goal for all the hard work he put in and obviously we knew they would come out at us a little bit after that.”
Hot shot Shots striker Craig Reid roofed in a 12th minute leveller to add to his hat-trick at Torquay last Tuesday.
Argyle regained the lead from Andres Gurrieri’s rising 25 yard strike in the 30th minute.
Argentine attacker Gurrieri, 23, also hit the goal frame, his low angled 20 yard strike beat diving Shots stopper Glenn Morris but came back off the base of the post.
Fletcher admitted: “It was a great finish from Andres, another good goal with the way we worked it and again I am pleased that a player was rewarded with a goal for working his socks off.
“I am really pleased. We had a really young side out, a game plan and stuck to it.”
Availability hit Plymouth started on-loan Peterborough left back Scott Griffiths, who joined them earlier today.
