Torquay United boss Martin Ling praised top scorer Rene Howe for getting the Gulls off to a flying start in yesterday's 3-1 win over Accrington Stanley.
Howe opened the scoring from a fourth minute penalty at Plainmoor.
Ling said: “It got us off to the perfect start and you couldn’t pick anyone better than Rene Howe to take the penalty at the moment because he is on fire.
"He’s got another goal and I thought he was a threat all game, and when he walks up to take a penalty like that he is coolness personified.”
Howe took his tally to six goals in six consecutive league games by sending keeper Ian Dunbavin the wrong way from his measured spot kick after Stanley left back Michael Liddle handled Nathan Craig’s cross.
It was target man Howe’s ninth goal of the season.
Stanley restored parity in the 65th minute when substitute Padraig Amond headed home Bohan Dixon’s cross from the right but United were back in front within two minutes.
Craig’s audacious lofted ball from the halfway line was headed down and in by Billy Bodin six yards out.
Skipper Lee Mansell (pictured by pinnacle) got off the mark for the term when he swooped to head home at the far post from Kevin Nicholson’s flag kick from the right on 80 minutes.
