Gambian born-Janneh, 18, joined Bristol City Academy after impressing at Bath College, Clevedon Town and Cadbury Heath.
“We feel he’s ready to play in this type of football,” says United's new manager Johnson, whose son Lee is Bristol City boss. “I’ve watched him a lot of times this season and I’ve had a chat with Lee about it.
“I just feel it was the right time to bring in someone. We need competition. We need players performing to get us into the next level.
“He’s quick. He’s strong, and I think he’s ready. He gives us something different if we need it because he is what we call a stretch player who works very, very hard up front. I think he’ll score goals. I’ve watched him in training at Bristol; I’ve watched him in their games, in their under 23s. He looks the part.
“He’s got to fight to earn a place; I think the forwards are working hard at the moment themselves. All I want to do is create that competition that nobody wants to be out of the side, so that when they’re in the side, they’re going to be giving 100%.”
Janneh goes straight into the Gulls' FA Cup squad for the tie which is available via BBC's red button service.
