Fresh from their first Championship win, Gary Johnson's Yeovil Town visit Southend United in Capital One Cup round one tonight.
Midfielder Ed Upson scored Yeovil's historic first Championship goal – winner – in the 88th minute of a 1-0 victory at Millwall on Saturday while Southend beat Plymouth Argyle 1-0 in League Two at Roots Hall thanks to a 15th minute strike from Barry Corr, signed for the Shrimpers by former United and Argyle boss Paul Sturrock.
Tonight John Sheridan's Pilgrims travel to Birmingham City, beaten 1-0 at home by Championship rivals Watford on the opening day of the new season.
Tonight Watford visit Bristol Rovers, seeking to bounce back from their 2-1 League Two defeat at Exeter City. John Ward's Rovers were without injured influential midfielder Matt Gill – the ex-Exeter City skipper – for Saturday's defeat in Devon. Tonight's match at the Mem kicks off at 1945.
Paul Tisdale's City – buoyed by debutant Sam Parkin's 79th minute opening day winner – host Queens Park Rangers, who bounced back from 1-0 down to beat visiting Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at Loftus Road on Saturday.
Bristol City – who drew 2-2 at home to Bradford on Saturday – visit League One rivals Gillingham, who lost 1-0 at home to Colchester.
Football League new boys Newport County, who announced their return following a 25-year absence with a 4-1 home win over Accrington, face a tough test at Brighton & Hove Albion, stung 2-1 at Leeds United in their Championship opener.
Former Cheltenham Town and Torquay United striker Chris Zebroski scored twice for new club Newport.
Two of Zebroski's former clubs are both in action against League One sides tonight. Cheltenham Town host Crawley Town, 3-2 home winners over Coventry, while Torquay visit Swindon Town, who lost 1-0 at Peterborough.
Torquay's attack is set to include former Swindon striker Elliot Benyon, who rejoined the Gulls from Southend United in summer, and Wales Under 21 winger Billy Bodin.
Bodin, 21, joined Torquay for an undisclosed five-figure fee from the reds last summer.
