Plymouth Argyle FC manager John Sheridan is confident of signing a central defender on loan before Saturday's League Two clash at Southend United as defensive rock Peter Hartley (hip flexor) is ruled out by injury.
Hartlepool-born Hartley, 26, has been been impressive at the heart of the greens defence throughout this season but told to rest up for at least 10 days and could face a 2-3 weeks spell before returning to first team duty.
Along with fit-again skipper and central defensive partner Curtis Nelson, vice captain Hartley returned to the Pilgrims starting line-up for last week's disappointing goalless draw at York but was replaced by substitute Ollie Norburn at half time.
Argyle are seventh, two points behind sixth placed Southend.
