WILTSHIRE IN TOP FORM AT SAUNTON

Wiltshire, who yesterday qualified for the English County Finals with the best team score from the 36 holes strokeplay score from the 2011 South Western Counties Amateur Championship at Saunton Golf Club, top the Matchplay Shield leaderboard at the start of day three.
Having rallied to overcome Gloucestershire on day one, Wiltshire beat Cornwall 8 ½ - 5 on day two having built up a 5-3 mid-match singles lead mid-match.
Centenary celebrating Devon – this year’s hosts of South West Counties Week – were beaten 9-5 by Dorset, who led 4 ½ - 3 ½ following the singles.
Gloucestershire gained their first win, inflicting a second defeat on Somerset, who led by two points (5-3) following the morning singles. Gloucestershire only dropped half a point in the afternoon singles, scoring 5 – ½ to win the match overall 8-5 ½.
Today Gloucestershire play Cornwall (8.15 and 1300), Somerset meet Dorset (9.15 and 1400) while Devon bid to put the brakes on Wiltshire’s winning streak (10.15 and 1500).
