CORFIELD QUALIFIES FOR 2011 OPEN

Burnham and Berrow touring professional Lee Corfield has qualified for the 2011 Open Championship at Royal St George’s, which tees off two weeks from today.
Former Somerset amateur ace Corfield – an England Elite player and 2004 West of England Open Strokeplay champion in his amateur days - qualified for the Open with a three under par 139 score at local final qualifying at Littlestone, Kent.
Corfield (70, 69) tied with four others and won his Open place via a five-way play-off.
Corfield topped the regional qualifying leaderboard at Ferndown with a seven under 65.
Truro amateur Rhys Enoch – set to lead Wales in the European Mens Team Championships in Portugal next week - just missed out after finishing tied fifth at LFQ at Rye, carding two-under 134 (68, 66).
St Mellion’s James Ruth finished level par at Littlestone on 142 (69, 73) to tie 14th overall.
Broome Manor’s Miles Mackman scored 147 (72, 75).
Downes Crediton head professional Barry Austin tied 16th following his one over 145 (71, 74) in LFQ at Prince’s, where Wrag Barn amateur Ben Loughrey finished on 146 (71, 75) and Saltford amateur Louis Boston scored 149.
Teignmouth’s Billy Hemstock tied 20th in LFQ following his 146 (70, 76) at Royal Cinque Ports, where Bath’s Charlie Cossins scored 148 (73, 75).
At Rye, Parkstone’s Martyn Thompson finished three over on 139 (67, 72) while Bath’s Ross Jones (73, 71) and the Wessex Golf Centre’s Jon Bevan (68, 76) totalled 144.
