There is plenty of regional interest in the 2011 English Boys Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship for the Carris Trophy being staged at Broadstone Golf Club in Dorset over the next four days.
Among a rising young star-studded, international-class field of 132, Hertfordshire’s Callum Shinkwin (Moor Park) defends the trophy he won by seven strokes last summer at Woodhall Spa.
A handful of Devon youngsters including amateur county champion Leon Fricker (Yelverton), Ryan Pope (Exeter), Harrison Greenberry (Exeter), Sam Edwards (Bigbury) and Devon Salver winner Jimmy Mullen (Royal North Devon) will be bidding to win the coveted Trophy and become English Boys under 18 champion.
So will other south west players including Gloucestershire’s Alex Ward (The Kendleshire), Cornwall’s Chris Fleming (Perranporth), Dorset’s Robert Mabb (Weymouth), Somerset’s Jamie Clare (Burnham & Berrow) and Sam Sloman (Taunton & Pickeridge).
The field also includes Hampshire's Harry Ellis (Meon Valley).
The four-day Championship is a 72-hole event. The leading 60 players plus ties after 36 holes play further rounds on Thursday and Friday.
