Royal North Devon amateur ace Jimmy Mullen won all four of his Walker Cup matches as Great Britain & Ireland cruised to a 16½-9½ win over the USA at Royal Lytham.
The 21-year-old walked tall among the best international amateur golfers either side of the Atlantic, winning both his singles matches and two foursomes games with Ashley Chesters.
GB&I debutant Mullen – from East-the-Water on the Bideford banks of the River Torridge and a Devon Golf first team regular since he was a junior - was the first “home” player to complete the Walker Cup four point feat since 1999.
Modest Mullen said: “It did not matter who won as long as the team won, but to win all my matches is the icing on the cake.”
And win, the team did, regaining the prestigious cup with a record-breaking points tally.
