SAMMIE SWEEPS TO SOUTH WEST SUCCESS

english women's golf association logoCornwall teenage amateur ace Sammie Giles swept to success in the English Women’s Golf Association South West Region girls championship at Lyme Regis Golf Club.

 

Giles, from St Mellion and already an established member of the women’s county team, carded two over par 148 over 36 holes to finish five shots ahead of runner-up Kyra Horlock from Wiltshire.

CARRIS TROPHY AT BROADSTONE GOLF CLUB

There is plenty of regional interest in the 2011 English Boys Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship for the Carris Trophy being staged at Broadstone Golf Club in Dorset over the next four days.

 

Among a rising young star-studded, international-class field of 132, Hertfordshire’s Callum Shinkwin (Moor Park) defends the trophy he won by seven strokes last summer at Woodhall Spa.

Somerset’s Lee Corfield finished tied 101st at the 2011 Open Championship at Royal St George’s.

 

The Burnham & Berrow touring professional carded two over par 72 for his first round and a 75 for his second at Sandwich.

DORSET DUO IN ENGLAND GOLF TRIO

Dorset amateur ace Hayley Davis of Ferndown Golf Club, courtesy English Women's Golf Association,copyright leaderboardphotography.com England’s Nations Cup team at next month's British girls’ championship will include Dorset's Hayley Davis and Georgia Hall.

Warwickshire’s Elizabeth Mallett will make up the trio competing at Gullane, Scotland from August 8-12.

DEVON GOLF ACE PIPPED IN NATIONAL FINAL

english womens golf association logoTiverton teenage ace Jess Bradley was narrowly beaten by Yorkshire's Claire Smith in the English Women's Open Mid-Amateur Championship final at Collingtree Park Golf Club.

Bradley, 18, was pipped by one hole by Smith despite birdie threes at the sixth and 10th and a superb 25 foot putt to par 13 before another birdie at the 14th.

CORFIELD QUALIFIES FOR 2011 OPEN

Burnham and Berrow touring professional Lee Corfield has qualified for the 2011 Open Championship at Royal St George’s, which tees off two weeks from today.

 

Former Somerset amateur ace Corfield – an England Elite player and 2004 West of England Open Strokeplay champion in his amateur days - qualified for the Open with a three under par 139 score at local final qualifying at Littlestone, Kent.
