LIPSON LIONS Junior Hockey Club

Since its formation in August 2006 the Lipson Lions Junior Hockey Club - run by parents and volunteer coaches - has continued to flourish in Plymouth.

Since then the club has secured several grants enabling Lions to purchase equipment for training and prospective goalkeepers.

Lions membership is made up of boys and girls aged between 5 and 15 years.

The club is always looking to welcome new members, the first two sessions attended are taster sessions and free of charge.

The club is based at hockey hub Lipson Academy in Plymouth and although a nucleus of players come from the immediate area, young Lions come from all corners of the city.

Lions co-ordinator Rob Logan said: "The club offers a structured hockey training evening on Wednesday for an hour from 1800, this allows children to learn and exercise in a safe, friendly environment. Boys and girls also play competitive matches at under 10 years, under 12 and under 14.

"A weekly training fee and annual subscription is used to fund the cost of hiring the pitch for training and matches."

Prospective players are welcome to turn up on a Wednesday evening for a free taster session - the club can supply sticks - and are advised to wear sports footwear and kit as the sessions are held on the Academy's all-weather outdoor pitches.
