WOMENS HOCKEY Clifton and Gloucester still unbeaten

Investec Womens Hockey League logoFleur Horner’s second placed Clifton maintained their unbeaten Premier Division start with a 2-2 draw at Leicester – despite trailing twice to the defending champions.

Dutch ace Els Mansell cancelled out Hannah Macleod’s penalty corner opener with a 29th minute reply.

Macleod fired Leicester 2-1 up after 50 minutes but 10 minutes later Emily Atkinson restored parity following a successful Clifton penalty corner strike.

Gloucester City made it three wins from three in round three thanks to a 1-0 home win over Barnes Hounslow Ealing to stay joint top of Conference West with Buckingham.

Laura Bevan scored the 52nd minute City winner.

Isca University rocketed up to third following a 5-0 home win over promoted Taunton Vale with goals from skipper Claire Thomas (6 mins) Tam Pascoe (8, 38) Taryn Beuthin (47) and Zoe Burrell (57).

Georgie Field claimed her fifth goal in three games as Firebrands won 2-0 at Stourport, where former Exe and St Austell ace Linda Webb opened the scoring on 11 minutes with her first goal for Brands. Skipper Field added a second from a 66th minute penalty corner.

Swansea led 2-1 at Trojans thanks to goals from Alex Naughalty (50) and Hannah Griffiths (54) but lost 4-2 to their Southampton hosts.

Nyssa Cole (18, 58) Becky Westall (62) and Izzy Wood (69) were on target for Trojans.
