WOMENS HOCKEY Gold medal ace Danson joins Clifton

Clifton Robinsons Ladies Hockey Team GB gold medal-winning Olympian Alex Danson is teaming up with top flight Bristol hockey hub club Clifton Robinsons Ladies ahead of the up-and-coming England Women’s Hockey League Premier season.

The 31-year-old Southampton-born GB and England Hockey free scoring ace switches from Reading to Clifton, skippered by Scottish international Aileen Davis.

Clifton – who merged with go-ahead Bristol men’s club Robinsons earlier this summer – have also snapped up highly rated England indoors and GB development goalkeeper Sarah Ellis from Premier League rivals Reading.

Ellis will be Clifton’s new first team no 1.

Ellis is set to make her Clifton national league debut on Saturday September 17 when the new Investec Women’s Hockey League season swings into action although hockey fans will have to wait a while longer before they see Danson in league action for the Bristol blues.

Clifton start their bid to top the women’s hockey national league at home to Canterbury at University of Bristol’s Coombe Dingle Sports Complex in Stoke Bishop at 1300.
