WEST CLUBS TO FORE AS EHL STARTS TODAY

england hockey league logoThe 2011-2012 England Hockey League starts today with the top match in the region at Coombe Dingle, Bristol where Fleur Horner’s Clifton Ladies take on reigning champions Leicester in the Women’s Premier Division (1300).

Last season’s Women’s Conference West runners-up Isca University start the new season at home to Southampton side Trojans at the water-based University Sports Park (1230).

HOLDERS FALMOUTH TOO STRONG FOR DUCHY

duchy hockey club ladies team, courtesy stuart richardsonDuchy Hockey Club Ladies were beaten 11-0 in their first competitive match by Cornwall Cup holders Falmouth in the opening first round tie at Pool Academy.

Falmouth's first team are the most successful ladies club side in Cornwall and play in West Clubs Womens League Premier 2.

MANTELL WINS 100TH ENGLAND HOCKEY CAP

england hockey ace richard mantellSomerset's Richard Mantell clocked up a special century for England yesterday when he played in the men’s 2011 Rabo Four Nations Cup 2-2 opening draw with Pakistan in Amstelveen, Netherlands.

 

Established Great Britain defender Mantell, 29, has now won 100 caps for England, scoring 46 times.

INSPIRATIONAL HOCKEY FESTIVAL

ucp marjon plymouth logoThe Plymouth Primary Schools Mixed Hockey Festival has been granted the Inspire Mark - the badge of the London 2012 Inspire Programme – as the festival celebrates its 10th year.

This year's mixed hockey festival takes place today and tomorrow at University College Plymouth St Mark & St John (UCP Marjon) and will involve 60 primary school teams from the region.

10 OUT OF 10 FOR EXETER STUDENTS

england hockey board logo Promotion-chasing University of Exeter recorded their 10th successive England Hockey League win, overcoming Bournville 3-0, to stretch their lead at the Men’s Conference West summit.

 

With two league games remaining, the Exeter students – captained by Exmouth’s Olly Deasy – are five points clear of second placed TeamBath Buccaneers, who lost 3-2 at sixth placed Whitchurch.
