SNOOKER South West trio head to Theatre of dreams

A trio of South Western raiders will head for the Crucible Theatre this week for the World Snooker Championships.

Two of them – 24 year old Devonian Sam Baird and Gloucester 21-year-old Jack Lisowski – will be making their debut at the game's most iconic venue after final qualifying.

SNOOKER Baird, Likowski & Milkins in world frame

Devon's Sam Baird and Gloucester's Jack Lisowski will be among 10 professionals bidding for a debut appearance at snooker's most famous venue.

Baird and Lisowski have battled through to the final qualifying round of the 2013 World Championships and are one win away from a trip to Sheffield's iconic Crucible Theatre.

MILKINS AND LEE IN LAST EIGHT

Gloucester snooker ace Rob Milkins will meet reigning world champion John Higgins in tomorrow’s Haikou World Open in China.

Milkins – who is 36 next Tuesday – overcame wild card Jin Long 5-2 and now faces Higgins, who beat Jamie Cope 5-0.

MILKINS BEATS SNOOKER WORLD CHAMPION

Gloucester snooker ace Rob Milkins scored the best win of his 11-year professional career today, beating world champion John Higgins 5-3 to reach the 2012 Haikou World Open semi finals in China.

He will now face fellow West Country man, Stephen Lee of Trowbridge, who beat Graeme Dott 5-1.

BAIRD AND MILKINS THROUGH TO WORLD OPEN

Devon's rising snooker star Sam Baird qualified for a ranking event venue for the first time by rallying from 3-1 down to beat world no 17 Mark Davis 5-4 in the 2012 Haikou World Open qualifiers in Sheffield.

Davis made a 137 to go 3-1 ahead but then lost four of the next five frames as 23-year-old Baird registered breaks of 63, 68, 55 and 75.
