The 2012 South West Schools Athletics Championships were held at Exeter Arena on Saturday.

In searching for the results from the competition I chanced upon the Somerset Schools Athletic Association website – a real gem.

The Somerset Schools' site was relaying updated results from the regional schools track and field championship by 2100 hours on Saturday night.

The site also features a list of up-and-coming fixtures, including next weekend’s South West Schools Athletics combined events championship at Exeter on Saturday June 30 and Sunday July 1 (1130 start both days).

South West Sports News was always intended to act as a conduit, a signpost to websites that carry sporting information from the region.

The Somerset Schools Athletic Association website – maintained by Brian Baker – does just that and to great effect.

If you want to see results from Saturday’s regional sports championship then visit Somerset Schools Athletic Association and go to track & field results (South West).

King will now represent Devon and the region - along with Saturday's other South West winners - at the English Schools' Athletic Association Track & Field Championships at Gateshead on July 6 and 7.

King, 18, attends Devonport High School for Boys in Plymouth and is also a member of City of Plymouth Athletic Club. He recently won bronze at the Aviva England Athletics Under 20 Championships, Bedford.
