Devon’s Jack Findel-Hawkins won the 2011 Winter National Tour boys 18 & under singles tournament in Herefordshire.

Findel-Hawkins, 17, of Exmouth Community College beat Hampshire’s Takura Miamba 6-2 6-0 in the Welwyn Garden City final.

His Exeter Tennis Centre coach Will McNally praised Findel-Hawkins for a fantastic start to the winter season following two national doubles title triumphs in summer.

Findel-Hawkins played positive tennis throughout the week at Welwyn, not dropping a single set and beating Neil Cordon (HER) 6-2 6-2 in his opening match.

The Exmouth teenage tennis ace eliminated Simon Pritchard (SW) 6-1 6-4 and Adam Glynn (DOR) 6-2 6-1 before sailing past Surrey’s James Elliot 6-3 6-1 in the semis.

McNally said: “Jack has been working on aggressive and positive play in training and the hard work and effort has paid off.”

The national title followed an impressive display in the Men’s British National Tour event at Taunton, where the talented, unseeded junior fought through to the final, upsetting seeds six and eight along the way.

Findel-Hawkins pushed top seed Marcus Willis all the way before losing 6-2, 7-6 to the world 696 from Berkshire.
