London Lions extended their lead at the top of the BBL Championship yesterday while there were important wins for Bristol Flyers, Manchester Giants and Radisson RED Glasgow Rocks in the race for the Play-Offs.

The Lions defeated Surrey Scorchers 83-96 with 19 points apiece for Justin Robinson and Ladarius Tabb, while Leicester Riders fell to an 89-77 loss in Glasgow with Kenny Carpenter scoring 23 first-half points in the Rocks' victory.

Nearly 800 athletes from 39 different countries will be heading to the University of Bath this week ahead of the eagerly-awaited 2023 UIPM Laser-Run and Pentathlon World Championships.

Most of the 191 athletes contesting the Pentathlon championships, from August 22-28, will be staying in accommodation on campus, just a few minutes’ walk from the main competition arena at the Team Bath Sports Training Village.

Team Bath AC high jumper Tom Gale says his first experience of an Olympics final at Tokyo 2020 has fired his ambition to challenge for medals at future Games.

Gale, who is coached by Denis Doyle at the Team Bath Sports Training Village, cleared his first three attempts in Sunday’s final but went out of the competition at 2.27m and had to settle for 11^th place overall.

Bristol Flyers are soaring into the British Basketball League next year.

Flyers - who will be owned by Bristol Sport Ltd - are set to tip-off in the BBL at the start of the 2014-15 season, September 2014.
