The divisional phase of the Durant Cricket National Counties Championship is set for an exciting finale with all eight of this weekend’s matches having a bearing on at least one of the five issues still to be decided across the four divisions.

Only Western Division One – won by Berkshire last weekend – has been decided with the Eastern Division One title, two relegation places and the two Division Two titles all up for grabs in the final round of three-day matches which start tomorrow.

Durant cricket championshipBerkshire head into their final Durant Cricket National Counties Championship match against Oxfordshire needing only a draw to secure the Western Division One title and a place in next month’s national final.

Berkshire currently head the table by 39 points having won all three of their divisional matches so far but that record may count for nothing if they slip up against Oxfordshire.

Durant cricket championshipCheshire will face the first of back-to-back matches against Berkshire when the sides meet in a Durant Cricket National Counties Championship Western Division One match at Nantwich today.

The sides will face each other again at Alderley Edge in the semi-finals of the National Counties Trophy seven days later but Cheshire’s immediate concern is how to transfer their 50 overs form into three-day cricket.

COUNTIES CRICKET Championship round two preview

Durant cricket championshipFormer Leicestershire batter Harry Dearden will make his first Durant Cricket National Counties Championship appearance for Cheshire in eight years in today’s Western Division One match against Oxfordshire at Thame.

Dearden’s previous two appearances in the competition came in the 2016 season, two years before he joined Leicestershire’s staff and went on to enjoy a six-season career at Grace Road.

Durant cricket championshipDevon, last season’s National Counties Championship finalists and Western Division One champions, begin their campaign against Berkshire, the 2022 national champions, at the North Devon club in Instow today.

Devon are missing Jamie Stephens, their red ball captain, who is injured having slipped in the field during last week’s National Counties Trophy quarter-final defeat by Cheshire.

NCCA-Logo MasterNorfolk have named Worcestershire batter/off-spinner Josh Cobb in their side for today’s National Counties Trophy quarter-final against Lincolnshire at Great Witchingham.

Cobb missed the defeat by Suffolk in Norfolk’s final Group Two match two weeks ago because he was required for Vitality Blast duty by Worcestershire.
