Cheshire will be boosted by the return of captain Rob Sehmi for their National Counties Championship Western Division One match against Berkshire which starts at Nantwich today (1100). 

Sehmi broke a finger in the defeat by Herefordshire in Cheshire’s last Championship match three weeks ago and he missed the Showcase 50-overs match against Warwickshire two week ago.

NATIONAL COUNTIES warm-up for Euros title defence

National Counties XI will warm-up for their defence of the European Championship by playing MCC in a 50-overs contest at Banbury today (1100). 

National Counties, who represented England, triumphed in the T10 European Championship last October and will return to the Cartama Oval in Malaga to defend their title in October.

NCCA CRICKET MATTERS Trophy semi-final team news

Berkshire have named ten of the side that defeated Middlesex in last weekend’s Showcase match in their squad for today’s National Counties Trophy semi-final against Dorset at Finchampstead (1100). 

Slow left-armer Luke Beaven returns to the squad in place of batter Charlie Dunnett as Berkshire continue their quest for a hat-trick of titles in the 50-overs competition having defeated Cumbria in both the 2019 and 2021 finals.

NATIONAL COUNTIES Championship preview/team news

NCCA-Logo MasterWorcestershire left-arm seamer Ben Gibbon will make his first appearance of the season for Cheshire in their National Counties Championship Western Division One opener against defending champions Oxfordshire at Alderley Edge today. 

Gibbon’s last appearance for his native county also came at Alderley Edge last August when he took five wickets against Wiltshire, was recommended to Worcestershire who then invited him for trials before signing him.

NCCA-Logo MasterFifteen sides will be battling for seven places in the National Counties Trophy quarter-finals in the final round of group matches today. 

Only Cambridgeshire, who sit out the final round, have already qualified for the knockout stages of the 50 overs competition leaving plenty of issues to be resolved elsewhere.

NCCA-Logo MasterFormer Herefordshire batter Jamie Harrison is in line to make his debut for Oxfordshire in today’s National Counties Trophy match against Northumberland at Jesmond (all cricket today weather-permitting).

Harrison made his Herefordshire debut in 2017 but has not played for them since a three-day Championship match against Shropshire at Shifnal last summer.
