Saltash United manager Macca Brown is calling for his improving Western Premier side to send supporters home happy for the summer ahead of tomorrow's final home game of the season against Welton Rovers.

The Ashes got it right at both ends of the pitch on Tuesday night continuing their strong finish to a testing season by beating sixth placed visitors Shepton Mallet 3-0.

Torrential rain decimated the New Year's Day non-league programme with eight matches called off in the Southern League and a dozen in the Western League.

Six of eight scheduled Hellenic League games were also washed off.

Champions Ivybridge Town intend to finish the South West Peninsula League season on a strong note having wrapped up the East Division.

They made that clear as they romped to a 7-0 home victory over Bishops Lydeard at Erme Valley on Tuesday. Tonight the Ivys host fifth-placed Okehampton Argyle (1930ko).

IVYBRIDGE Town suffered their second successive rain-off in six days when tonight's Western League Premier match at Saltash was postponed.

The decision was made after a rain-soaked afternoon inspection of the waterlogged pitch at Kimberley Stadium.

Saltash United are assured of playing tomorrow - and not many South West non-league teams are able to say that with confidence.

The Ashes’ Cornish derby against Western League leaders Helston Athletic has been switched from Kellaway Park to the all weather Devon FA pitch at Coach Road, Newton Abbot, with a 2.30pm kick-off.
