There was a maiden century for Berkshire opener Johnny Connell against Cornwall at Wargrave in Western Division One.

Connell announced himself with a brilliant century in victory over Middlesex in a Showcase match two years ago but this was his first in a competitive match and came after a number of near-misses.

Oxfordshire routed Cheshire to record the biggest innings win in their history to stay on the trail of Berkshire, the Western Division One pacesetters in the Durant Cricket National Counties Championship.

Cheshire, who were dismissed for 119 in their first innings at Thame, folded for 108 second time with left-arm spinner Tom Hinley taking his first five wicket haul in the competition.

Berkshire dodged the rain to open their Durant Cricket National Counties Championship campaign with a ten wickets victory over Devon at Instow in Western Division One.

It was the only positive result in an opening round blighted by bad weather with no play possible on the final day of five of the eight matches.

Andy Rishton produced a career-best bowling performance to put Berkshire in complete control of their Durant Cricket National Counties Championship Western Division One match against Cornwall at Wargrave.

The experienced seam bowler took seven for 55 to dismiss Cornwall for 124 in their first innings and, with a mountainous lead of 315, Berkshire captain Dan Lincoln had no hesitation in enforcing the follow-on.

In Western Division One, Berkshire were frustrated by rain which cut short proceedings at Instow after they had overtaken Devon’s 222 and built a lead of 61 when the weather closed in.

Calum Haggett prolonged Devon’s resistance in the morning with a half-century while former Cornwall seamer Tommy Sturgess finished with four for 48 in his first Championship bowl for Berkshire.
