Cumberland will face favourites Berkshire in the Minor Counties Trophy final at Wormsley on August 28 after they enjoyed very different passages through yesterday's semi-finals.

Berkshire progressed to the final with a four wickets win over Wiltshire at Finchampstead.

Defending Minor Counties champions Berkshire made two wins out of two crushing Wales by 220 runs at the Falkland cricket club in Newbury.

Former Middlesex slow left-armer Chris Peploe was Berkshire’s match-winner with a career-best match haul of 13 for 80 which included remarkable second innings figures of 15.5-8-14-7.

Defending champions Berkshire made it four wins from four in this season’s Minor Counties Championship and 12 in a row over three seasons as they swept Shropshire aside by 241 runs at Shifnal.

The recipe for Berkshire’s success was again simple but effective – bat long in both innings and leave the bowlers with plenty of time to take 20 wickets.

Wiltshire spinners Jake Lintott and Joe King took eight wickets between them to trigger a Cornwall collapse at Corsham.

Cornwall appeared in little trouble when they reached 155 for two but they crumbled to 184 all out after Lintott, the former Hampshire and Gloucestershire slow left-armer Lintott, had player/coach Greg Smith stumped.

Wales ended a three-year wait for a Minor Counties Championship victory by defeating hosts Wiltshire by 139 runs inside two days at the South Wilts club in Salisbury.

Off-spinner Tom Bevan led Wales to the landmark victory by taking five for 59 – his maiden five wicket haul in the championship – to dismiss Wiltshire for 154 in their second innings.

Cornwall launched their Minor Counties Championship season with an innings victory over Oxfordshire at Truro.

After the first day was lost to rain but Cornwall made impressive progress to wrap up victory inside five sessions.
