Today is the start of the new 2014 league season for thousands of club cricketers across South West England.
The Cornwall Cricket League was due to knock-in last Saturday.
Unfortunately torrential April showers ruined the day for one and all hoping to make an early start to the “summer season”.
Weather-permitting Cornish club cricketers are set to make a rain-delayed start today along with their peers in county leagues in Devon, Dorset and Somerset as well as those from Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire who compete in the West of England Premier League. The South Wales Premier Cricket League also starts today.
Once again South West Sports News will do its utmost to bring you a flavour of the wonderful club cricket that you can enjoy across our region every weekend – and most summer evenings.
I am no batsman or bowler but enjoy supporting sport, my local teams, as much as the next person and – for me – there is something captivating about taking a seat on the boundary to watch club cricket in the summer months.
I can almost hear the bees buzzing and crack of leather on willow now…
