WEPL CRICKET Clubs vote for 2016 restructure

Clubs attending the West of England Premier Cricket League annual meeting at the County Ground Bristol have voted in favour of a restructure to take effect in the summer 2016 season.
The change comes in order to address a decline in the numbers playing (league) cricket.
Key organisations Gloucestershire Cricket Board, Somerset Cricket Board and Wiltshire Cricket Board, WEPL officers and representatives of four feeder leagues unanimously agreed on a new “linear” structure proposal before last night's annual meeting.
A joint statement issued by the three cricket boards recognised the first time such a collaboration has occurred “which demonstrates a recognition from those involved in managing the game that change is needed.
“The 2014 national playing survey has been the catalyst for change.
“The players have spoken and clubs and leagues need to listen (to them) and act accordingly if we are to halt the decline in participation.”
The new league structure addresses concerns highlighted by players by reducing travelling distances, hours of play and overs.
