COUNTIES CRICKET latest including T20 Super 12s

Staffordshire will be boosted by the return of Derbyshire newcomer Rory Haydon for today’s National Counties T20 Super-12s competition at Moddershall.

Staffordshire, who are still technically defending their title as 2023 winners after rain washed out last year’s Finals Day, will also welcome back captain James Kettleborough.

Staffordshire will play Norfolk in the opening match of the day at Moddershall (10am) with the losers facing Herefordshire at 1pm and the winners having a break before playing Herefordshire at 4.30pm. The winners of each of the four Super-12s tournaments will progress to Finals Day at Wormsley on Sunday August 24.

Herefordshire are able to include seamer Roshan Venkataraman for the first time this season following his recovery from injury and former Worcestershire batter Taylor Cornall is also available.

Cornwall, beaten finalists in 2023, host Wales NC and Oxfordshire at Wadebridge.

Worcestershire batter/slow left-armer Tom Hinley will make his seasonal debut for Oxfordshire who also include Sussex batter Harrison Ward in their squad.

Batter Arthur Hanson, a product of Oxfordshire’s pathway system who is now playing for Sussex Under-18s, is set for his senior county debut and seamer Tom Davis returns having missed the drawn Championship match with Herefordshire.

Berkshire topped their T20 group and now have home advantage at Wargrave for matches against Dorset and Suffolk.

Berkshire welcome back batter Jonny Connell and seamer Ben Salter, who have been trialling with Essex and Hampshire respectively in recent weeks.

Suffolk are badly affected by unavailability with regulars Adam Jones, Dan Shanks, Alex Cruickshank and Tom Harper notable absentees. Darren Ironside is also ruled out by injury.

The last of this season’s Showcase Matches between National Counties and first-class counties will be played next week, all of them 50 overs contests.

Cornwall host Somerset at Wadebridge on Monday with the first-class county taking part in their second Showcase match of the season after beating Devon in a T20 fixture at Exmouth in May.

Herefordshire complete the Showcase programme on Tuesday when they face near-neighbours Worcestershire at Eastnor in a repeat of the 2022 fixture.
