COUNTIES CRICKET Trophy quarter-finals round-up

Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Cumbria and Cheshire booked their places the NV Play National Counties Trophy semi-finals yesterday.

Berkshire were the most emphatic quarter-final winners, beating Buckinghamshire by 124 runs at High Wycombe.

Berkshire will now have home advantage in the Sunday June 28 semi-finals against Oxfordshire, who eased to a seven wickets win over Wiltshire at Warminster.

Cumbria scrambled a one wicket win over Staffordshire in a low-scoring thriller at Carlisle and will now host Cheshire, who beat Norfolk by 58 runs at Sprowston, in the other semi-final.

Oxfordshire completed their win with almost 15 overs to spare despite a fourth Trophy century from Wiltshire captain Ed Young.

Wiltshire were wobbling at 22 for three before Young and Will Naish (33) stabilised the innings with a fourth wicket partnership of 62.

Alfie Johnson (38) then provided further valuable support to Young before the former Gloucestershire all-rounder completed his century in partnership with last man Joe King.

Young finished unbeaten on 114 from 116 balls but Wiltshire’s total of 216 for nine always looked below par.

Hayden Rossouw then followed up his four wickets with an unbeaten half-century in an unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 98 with Freddie Smith, who was 79 not out when Oxfordshire completed the win.
