Taylor pounced on a bouncing through ball to rifle home on 89 minutes just four minutes after fellow goal scorer Antoni Sarcevic was red carded for a midfield challenge on the Saddlers' former Bristol Rovers midfielder Stuart Sinclair.
Substitute Sarcevic made it 2-0 on 82 minutes with a thumping low shot after latching on to Danny Mayor’s measured forward pass into the penalty area.
Argyle got off to the perfect start when Taylor coolly added the finishing touch to Callum McFadzean’s near post cross from the left on 13 minutes.
Lowe’s greens – already without injured front runners Byron Moore and Joel Grant – suffered another injury blow as fast forward Dom Telford pulled up, holding his hamstring, as he closed in on goal.
Telford’s replacement, on-loan 19-year-old Rangers striker Zak Rudden made an immediate impression on his Football League and Argyle debut, almost scoring with his first touch.
Striker Elijah Adebayo twice forced saves from Argyle's outstanding on loan West Brom keeper Alex Palmer with Walsall’s best efforts on goal.
SWSN Star Ryan Taylor
