Tallan Mitchell’s 49th minute strike proved enough for the premier west leaders to bank another three points but third placed Dobwalls pushed them all away in an enthralling encounter.
Mousehole boss Jake Ash said: “I told the boys afterwards that I was extremely proud of them because for me, that is right up there with the toughest games of the season.
“I can see why Dobwalls were unbeaten at home and have got off to such a good start; they are aggressive, organised, and carry a threat up top.
“So with that in mind, it’s a really pleasing day as we had to work really hard for the three points.
“We limited them to very few chances and in truth could have had a few more ourselves, but it was all about sticking to our methodology and trusting that would get us through – and the players did that to a man.”
Dobwalls started the game on the front foot and Mousehole keeper Cory Harvey had to be alert to collect a powerful drive from Kelvin Fyneboy in the 12th minute.
Mousehole were being given very little space to put together their passing game but they almost broke the deadlock on the half-hour when Mitchell’s speculative shot from 30 yards sailed over Dobwalls keeper Toby Chapman but came back off the bar.
The lively Josh Magin was a constant threat for the visitors out on the right and his 39th minute shot flew across the penalty area with nobody there to provide a finishing touch.
The league leaders went ahead when a sweeping move led to the ball being fed through to Mitchell, who produced a quality finish from 15 yards.
Dobwalls responded with Jamie Rowlands firing just wide from the edge of the box, while substitute Alex Henniker forced Seagulls keeper Harvey to push his volley on the turn around the post.
Hayden Turner had a great opportunity to make the game safe for the visitors in the 72nd minute as he broke clear of the Dobwalls defence but with time – perhaps too much time – to think, he sliced his left foot shot well wide with only Chapman to beat.
The miss gave Dobwalls renewed belief of getting something from the game and they put Mousehole under a lot of pressure in the last 15 minutes without creating a clear chance.
A word for the match officials. This was a hard-fought encounter with some tasty challenges and plenty of vocal pressure coming from the sidelines, but referee Jonothan Green and his assistants handled it all very well.
