PRE-SEASON Ivybridge Town AFC 1 Plymouth Parkway 2

Callum Hall goal tomfinnieThe non-League Plymouth football pre-season kicked off with Lee Hobbs' Southern League new boys Parkway winning 2-1 at Ivybridge.

The match, which was watched by Plymouth Argyle manager Ryan Lowe, provided an excellent work-out for Darren Stewart's Ivies, who compete in South West Peninsula Premier East.

Parkway took a 2-0 lead with goals from Callum Hall (38th min) and Mikey Williams (74th min). They also had a penalty in the 49th minute but Tom Bath's spot kick was brilliantly saved by Kane Gregory, who had an impressive game in the Ivybridge goal.

The greens hit back with an 83rd minute goal from Ollie Aplin, who also hit the crossbar and had another effort cleared off the line.

Ivies boss Stewart said: “I was pleased with what we got out of the game against a quality side.  A few of our squad were not available and we finished with a young side including three 16-year-olds.”

Stewart will be looking to select from a stronger squad for the next pre-season game against Wendron at Erme Valley on Saturday (1430ko). He says: “Five of the players who were not available against Parkway will be returning.

“Wendron play in the same tier as ourselves and I am expecting it to be a good run-out.”

The match against Wendron, who play in SWPL Premier West, is for the Leon Sargent Challenge Cup with the trophy decided on aggregate over two legs with the decider at Wendron on Saturday July 24 (1500ko).

Saturday’s fixture has been brought forward 30 minutes to avoid clashing with England’s Euro quarter-final against Ukraine.

Ivybridge complete a busy week with a trip to St Austell on Monday July 12 (1930).

Lowe's Argyle side visit new-look Bolitho Park to play Parkway on Saturday in a sold-out encounter.
