Jake Foster showed he still has the magic touch as his two goals saw Millbrook to an excellent victory at Bickland Park on Saturday.
The popular long-serving striker made an early breakthrough with a goal after 10 minutes and made sure of the points five minutes from time as the Brook made it successive 2-0 wins in the league.
Millbrook manager Macca Brown said: “I’m a
bsolutely delighted, it’s always tough to pick up points on the road in this league, especially at a place like Falmouth with their amazing support. “So to come home with all three points is a huge effort from the lads and it was a great away performance which makes it back to back wins in the league for us for the first time in a while.” Foster’s early strike rewarded Millbrook for a bright start but the goal seemed to inspire Falmouth more than Millbrook as the home side picked up their performance. Brown said: “You often see that to be honest in this league when you go ahead, the rhythm of the game does change but it certainly changed too much for our liking. “We worked hard but lacked composure and quality when winning it back, and then weren’t winning the second balls when we were more direct and that led to us really being on the back foot for the rest of the half. “We still had a few moments but were perhaps fortunate to go in ahead at the break as Falmouth were in control really.” Brown felt half-time came at a good time for his side, giving the visitors time to regroup and to iron out a couple of things to try to regain some control. He said: “The game was very much 70/30 in Falmouth’s favour in terms of that and we needed to put that right and we saw the result of that in the second half, particularly after we made a couple of substitutions early in the half. “You don’t expect to have as much possession away from home but you can still be in control of the game without the ball and we are usually pretty good at that. “We lacked a bit of physicality but the substitutes brought us that so we became more of a threat ourselves in the last half hour or so and looked far more secure. “Falmouth were a huge threat from set pieces, I was really impressed with that area of their game, they had a few smart routines and got a blocker involved to free up James Ward, who is a problem from corners, but credit to the lads as we did well to combat that and it’s not usually a strong point for us.” Brown admitted that Millbrook had some moments of good fortune from Falmouth set pieces when the ball bounced their way, which hasn’t happened too often this season. He went on: “We then started to look more dangerous on the break and Kieran (O’Melia) came into his own in that period. He hit the bar with a superb free kick and then did brilliantly to set Jake up for his second with five minutes to go. “So overall we are delighted, we were without five players and had Noah (Maund), Kieran and Ben Goulty all playing who are still just 17-18 years old, so for them to play beyond their years in terms of game management at times was really pleasing to see and the lads were buzzing after the game.”
