Argyle midfielder Malachi Boateng was the matchwinner, cutting in from left and hammering home from inside the box after being set-up by Ayman Benarous in the 48th minute.
Bali Mumba nearly made it 2-0 in the 75th minute after driving in from the right and letting fly but keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrel flapped the ball away.
Argyle – who lost their opening four league games - started well with Alex Mitchell’s far post header cleared off the line by fellow central defender Oliver Casey in the second minute.
Argyle’s new Swiss striker Lorent Tolaj could have made a dream start after Bradley Ibrahim's defence splitting pass to Mumba, whose shot was well saved by quick-off-his-line Peacock-Farrell.
Swiss striker Tolaj - who joined Argyle from Port Vale on Friday on a four-year deal - first-timed the 10th minute rebound inches wide.
Blackpool striker Dale Taylor scuffed his 25th minute close-range shot wide before Luca Ashby-Hammond was forced to palm over Albie Morgan’s dipping 20 yarder in the 32nd minute.
Argyle were denied a second goal by referee David Rock after brilliant work by Tolaj, winning the ball off two defenders to tee up Xavier Amaechi, who finished superbly in the far corner - only for the referee to haul play back for a free kick to the Greens for a foul on their new number 9.
SWSN Star Luca Ashby-Hammond (Argyle)
Attendance 15,322 (441 away)
