Plymouth Argyle will host Frank Lampard’s newly promoted Premier League Coventry City in the EFL Cup second round later this month following a dramatic 2-0 stoppage time win over Devon rivals Exeter City.

Former City defender Alex Hartridge headed Argyle 1-0 up in the second minute of stoppage time from a Harvey White corner.

Argyle’s Canadian striker Bim Pepple made it 2-0 in the fourth and final minute of stoppage time after being teed up by sub Freddie Isaaka, who beat City keeper Jack Bycroft to the ball before teeing up his team-mate.

There was even time for Argyle's new number one Murphy Cooper to make a late great save to deny City and maintain a clean sheet for the greens.

Charlie Cummins fired high and wide when the ball dropped to him from a headed clearance in the 29^th minute.

It was a rare opportunity in a tense, scrappy Devon derby that offered little in quality for the first half hour in front of a 16,755 near-capacity crowd.

Bycroft made an excellent full length save to keep out Pepple’s goal-bound angled drive on 31 minutes.

Pepple headed just over from Malachi Boateng’s cross into the six-yard box in the 57^th minute as Argyle pressed for an opener.

New number nine Will Evans missed a golden opportunity to put the greens ahead on the hour but fired over from 12 yards.

City 65^th minute substitute Ethan Sunderland saw red in the 88^th minute after being yellow carded in the 78^th.

Evans - and Ronan Curtis - headed just wide as Argyle upped the ante in the final 10.

Then came four minutes of stoppage time and Devonport End joy for the greens...
