Typically it’s forecast to be cracking-the-edges cricket weather for today’s bank holiday non-League football programme.
Real football fans temperatures were set to soar anyway given the glut of local derbies on offer.
Gloucester versus Bath is a normally a massive rugby union tale of two cities but today it’s one of the eye-catching fixtures in National Football League South as Tim Harris’ Tigers take on Gary Owers’ Romans at Evesham.
It’s in the Southern League where local derbies abound, topped by the Dorchester Town versus Weymouth Dorset derby in Southern Prem.
The Dorset derby may have lost its twitter tag of El Jurassico these days but the towns are only a little under eight miles apart so it remains a local football derby in the truest sense.
In Southern League West it doesn’t get much better.
Just about every game on the fixtures list is a top local derby.
Barnstaple Town host Bideford in North Devon while non-League football fans in Gloucestershire are spoilt for choice with Bishops Cleeve greeting Cinderford, Slimbridge at home to Shortwood United and Yate Town versus Mangotsfield United.
Newly promoted Bristol Manor Farm host Bath’s Larkhall Athletic while East Gloucestershire’s Cirencester Town make the short trip over the Wiltshire county border to visit Swindon Supermarine.
It’s a similar story for AFC Totton, Paulton Rovers and Wimborne supporters, who all face relatively short trips for games at Salisbury, Taunton Town and Winchester City respectively.
