Three of the successful Cornwall side who have just won the English County Championship will represent South West amateur golf against their Midlands counterparts in Birmingham today.
South West amateur champion Tom Fox is set to make his fourth appearance in the regional representative side alongside fellow county championship winners Rob MacGregor, from Camborne club Tehidy Park, and rising England Under 18 star Harry Hall from Lelant club West Cornwall.
China Fleet Golf & Country Club deputy golf manager Fox, 23, has had a year to remember after being crowned South West amateur champion and then helping steer home county Cornwall to a first ever English County Championship win following an 81 year wait.
Fox, who hails from Saltash but lives in Plymouth, said: “It will be the fourth time I have represented the region and it’s always an honour – especially this year as champion.”
This year’s regional clash is being staged at the Robin Hood Golf Club in Birmingham and the South West side has been selected by non-playing captain Giles Legg of Dorset, assisted by Cornwall’s Steve Rickard.
All four Cornwall golfers in the South West squad helped Richard Simmons' Duchy side successfully defend their regional Channel League title this year.
