MCGEEVER 13TH IN EUROPEAN U23 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Devon-based teenager Jenny McGeever finished 13th in the women's epee event at the European Under 23 Fencing Championships at Gdansk, Poland.
McGeever beat Romanian Roxana Lazar 15-13 in the last 32 stage of the tableu before losing 15-11 to Russian Olga Kochneva, the eventual bronze medallist.
The title was won by Italian Rossella Fiamingo.
McGeever, 18, attends Wellington School and is currently ranked second in the country in her age group as well as being the under 20 national champion and the south west senior champion.
She lives in Cullompton and trains at Wellington Swords Fencing Club under the guidance of Hungarian coach Gyorgy Felletar.
Earlier this year McGeever finished 34th in the women's epee at the World Junior Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan while representing Great Britain in the individual and team events.
