Cornwall and Devon cricketers suffered a frustrating start to their Minor Counties season thanks to the April showers.
Cornwall's MCCA Trophy group one opener against Oxfordshire was abandoned yesterday without a ball bowled at St Austell as the outfield was unplayable following heavy overnight rain.
Devon’s away game against Hertfordshire was also cancelled, due to a waterlogged Welwyn Garden City wicket. So much rain fell in Herts that officials were able to call the tie off on Saturday and prevent Devon making a wasted journey.
Devon are due to host Cornwall next Sunday at North Devon CC, Instow . . . weather-permitting.
• Dorset's group four opener against Buckinghamshire at Sherborne School was abandoned after 25.5 overs as rain swept in.
Josh Lawrence was on 60 not out for Dorset, who were put into bat after losing the toss.
• Wales (219) lost to Berkshire in a rain-affected group four opener at Henley-on-Thames despite half centuries for Dion Holden (56) and Tom Baker (58).
