Devon visit Wiltshire in the MCCA Trophy quarter finals on Sunday June 17 following yesterday’s sparkling 166-run win over Oxfordshire at Challow & Childrey CC.
The big win means Devon finished runners-up to Cornwall in group one, while Wiltshire have already secured top spot in group two.
Devon opener Rob Woodman paved the path for victory with 79 ably supported by David Lye’s 73 at three on the way to 277-9 in 50 overs. Woodman plays his club cricket for Taunton, Lye for Exmouth.
The home side were creaking at 59-5 by the 12th over and were eventually bowled out for 111 in the 34th as Devon skipper Chris Bradley (Bovey Tracey) took five wickets for 10 runs.
The Wiltshire v Devon quarter final will take place at Corsham Cricket Club.
• Bovey Tracey visit St Austell in the Kingfisher Beer Cup third round on Sunday following yesterday’s six-wicket home win over Saints’ Cornwall Cricket League Premier rivals Grampound Road at The Recreation Ground.
Bovey – skippered by Peter Bradley – bowled out the Road for 81 and made 84-4 in reply.
• In the National Village Cup, Roche beat Mount Ambrose by seven wickets and Cornish side Stithians are also through to the third round after Uplyme & Lyme Regis conceded.
• The Vinter Cup second round gets underway tonight in Cornwall as Camborne take on Truro seconds (Roskear, 1830).
• A gentle reminder that – due to the Olympic Torch Relay visiting Taunton – tomorrow’s Somerset versus Durham LV= County Championship match will start at 12 noon (County Ground).
