COUNTIES CRICKET Wiltshire home in semi-final

Sudbury and the South Wilts club in Salisbury have been chosen as the venues for the National Counties Trophy semi-finals on Sunday July 16 (1100).

Suffolk will make a quick return to Sudbury for their home tie against Cumbria having beaten Northumberland by 87 runs at Friars Street in Sunday’s quarter-finals.

Cumbria, beaten in the last three Trophy finals, reached the semi-finals by beating Cheshire by 14 runs at Keswick.

Wiltshire’s reward for a four wickets win over Hertfordshire on Sunday is a home semi-final against holders Berkshire, who are seeking to win the competition for a fourth successive season.

Berkshire beat Dorset by seven wickets in a high-scoring contest at Wimborne in their quarter-final.

Although Wiltshire have used the South Wilts ground as a regular venue for Championship cricket since 1905 and have staged three List A matches at the ground, the semi-final will be only the second Trophy match they have played there, the other being a group match against Herefordshire in 1998.

The National Counties Trophy final will be played at Wormsley on Sunday August 27.
