Plymouth Argyle edged up a place to 21st in League Two following their 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers and an 84th minute leveller for French central defender Maxine Blanchard.

Blanchard scored after seeing his 18th minute header come back off the bar, four minutes after Rovers top scorer Matt Harrold headed his 13th goal of the season.

Livewire Rovers winger Mustapha Carayol was denied by a superb diving Jake Cole save early in the second half and should have also scored from a gilt-edged opportunity.

Plymouth boss Carl Fletcher said: "I was pleased for Maxine because he hit the bar early on and a few people said it might have been in, but I am not too sure.

"He's one of those players who seems to go unnoticed but is very consistent and works so hard each and every day.

"I was just pleased we got that point because it could be a big point come the end of the season.”

Rovers boss Mark McGhee said: "Regardless of how well or badly we played, we had chances to have wrapped the game up – and we didn’t take them. Ultimately, that is what has cost us.

"Muzzy probably had the best chance for a second goal but got a bit flash when all he had to do was put it in the net. He did brilliantly at times and scored a fantastic goal on Saturday but he had an easier chance tonight and missed it.

"There were others who had chances too. Matt Harrold should have had second goal with another header. I’d like to think he’ll be going home not thinking about the goal he scored but the one he missed.”
