Plymouth should have been ahead at half time and deservedly took the lead on 50 minutes when on-loan Burnley forward Alex MacDonald latched on to a Guy Madjo pass before driving the ball underneath United keeper Daniel Bentley.
United’s on-loan Watford striker Britt Assombalonga replied five minutes later with a superb solo goal.
Argyle boss Carl Fletcher said: “I was really pleased we scored so soon after half time it was just a little bit of a disappointment we could not kick on from there.
“Alex took his goal well and I am pleased for him because he has been working really hard in the last few games. The whole team do, I would say we are the hardest working team in the division.”
Fletcher is now hoping Plymouth’s on-loan Watford midfield ace Ross Jenkins (groin) passes fit for Tuesday’s trip to Wycombe after missing today’s game.
