LEAGUE 1 Plymouth Argyle 1 Blackpool 0

argyle logo2013Argyle’s Welsh Under 21 international striker Luke Jephcott opened his League One scoring account with a third minute opening day winner behind closed doors against Blackpool at Home Park.

The 20-year-old swooped to deftly redirect central defender Will Aimson’s arrowed cross from the right past Seasiders keeper Chris Maxwell at the near post.

Another 20-year-old, rookie keeper Michael Cooper, marked his League One home bow with a clean sheet and some superb saves.

Cooper saved well from CJ Hamilton on 15 minutes before striker Jerry Yates headed just wide from Hamilton’s cross on 26 minutes.

Cooper was at his best again denying Sully Kaikai as he left fly from a 25 yard free kick.

Marvin Expiteta, Kaikai and Grant Ward all had shots blocked in quick succession on 47 minutes as Blackpool lined-up on the edge of the box.

Maxwell did well to palm over Danny Mayor’s chip as he weaved in – past two Blackpool defenders – down the left byline.

Keshi Anderson’s thumping strike was brilliantly saved by diving Cooper on 73 minutes.

Argyle countered with Maxwell saving well to deny striker Frank Nouble in the next attack.
