Striker Dan Jennings scored twice as Bodmin survived a rocky first half to bag all three points against Penzance at Priory Park.

The Magpies had been the better side in the first half but Jennings broke the deadlock two minutes before the break.

Five minutes into the second half Tom Harris doubled Bodmin’s lead and victory was sealed in the 85th minute with Jennings’ second of the night.

The story might have been different if Penzance had scored in the third minute when Mawgan Kewn toe-poked the ball towards an empty net... only to see Martin Watts hack it off the line.

The woodwork came to Bodmin’s rescue after 30 minutes as Jacob Cleverly drilled the ball past keeper Ollie Chenoweth but saw it hit the post.

Three minutes later Penzance threatened again as Gary Bell was given time to set up a shot from 25 yards which flew inches over the bar.

Bodmin’s first clear chance came in the 39th minute when Jennings shot towards an unguarded net but Luke Hart raced back to clear off the line.

Jennings was back four minutes later with a superb low shot which broke the deadlock at last for a frustrated home side.

The half-time score was harsh on Penzance but they fell further behind in the 50th minute when Harris finished off from 15 yards after a clever lay-off by Adam Carter.

The visitors continued to threaten, however, and Watts was forced into another goal line clearance before Josh Turner fired across the face of goal when it looked easier to score.

Bodmin finally put the game beyond Penzance five minutes from time with a classy finish from Jennings, lashing the ball into the net on the turn.
