Midfield maestro Tom Payne inspired Millbrook to a hard-earned victory over Step 5 side Hallen at Jenkins Park.
The classy left footed skipper led by example as the Brook had to survive a second half fightback to clinch their place in the Vase first round proper.
Payne was denied on several occasions by goalkeeper Tom Creed, making his Hallen debut, and most of Millbrook’s best moments in the tie came through the skipper and middle of the park.
Hallen, who arrived only 40 minutes before kick-off, were caught cold in the opening half an hour as goals from Ed Goodman (12) and Ross Hamilton (28) gave Millbrook a perfect start.
The Western League Premier Division side seemed to be lifted by a half-time talk from new manager Dean Horseman and went on to dominate the second half.
They had a 53rd minute effort from Cory Simpson controversially ruled out as the referee pulled play back for a free kick rather than play advantage.
The visitors continued to attack with purpose and striker Sacha Tong forced home a 77th minute goal, which set up a nervy last 15 minutes for the home side as Hallen piled on the pressure.
It didn’t help Millbrook’s cause when substitute Jake Foster was sin-binned in the 90th minute, leaving the home side to see out five minutes of stoppage time with 10 men.
They managed it and can now look forward to tomorrow’s draw for the first round proper, the furthest Millbrook have progressed in the national competition.
Ties are set to be played on Saturday October 31.
