SWPL WEST Wadebridge Town 1 Falmouth Town 6

Wadebridge Falmouth KJMFalmouth Town moved up to second place in the Peninsula West table after demolishing poor Wadebridge at Bodieve Park.

Andrew Westgarth’s side were 4-0 up by the 35th minute and increased their lead to six just after the hour before Sam Gerken notched a late consolation for the Bridgers.

Luke Brabyn scored twice and other Falmouth goals came from Luke Barmer, Dave Broglino, Tim Nixon and Scott Kellow.

The six goals mean Falmouth, in their 13th game, are the first team in the SWPL to reach the 50-goal mark.

Wadebridge had started the game strongly and it took a smart save from Ryan Barnes to tip a Matt Lloyd shot around the post in the seventh minute.

But once Barmer had fired Falmouth ahead in the 13th minute with a fine low drive from the right – his 11th goal of the season - there was no holding the visitors.

They made it 2-0 seven minutes later when Broglino, also notching his 11th goal, was on hand to finish off from close range after a sweeping move along the left.

Wadebridge looked fragile at the back and suffered more misery in the 27th minute when Nixon weaved his way into the penalty area and dribbled around keeper Rob Rosevear before making it 3-0.

Barner was causing havoc wide on the right and when he was put through after 35 minutes, he looked certain to score before being tripped by Rosevear just inside the penalty area.

Brabyn took the resulting spot kick to extend Falmouth’s lead to 4-0 and they thought they had made it 5-0 just before half-time but an offside flag denied them.

The second half saw no respite for the Bridgers and it was only a matter of time before a Falmouth team full of confidence added more goals.

Brabyn added a fifth after 57 minutes with an excellent strike from just outside the penalty area and Scott Kellow completed the visitors’ scoring six minutes later with a superb lob from 25 yards which curled over Rosevear into the far corner.

Wadebridge deserved credit for battling on. There was no dropping of heads and they got a goal nine minutes from time when Gerken forced the ball in after a corner.

Falmouth, and their noisy band of supporters, were impressive and on this form will be part of the title chase.
