Tavistock produced three stunning goals from Liam Prynn, Josh Grant and Tallan Burns while Mousehole had just as many chances but were unable to convert them.
Whether it was the woodwork or the excellence of home goalkeeper Josh Oak, there was no reward for highly-rated Mousehole.
Tavistock, on the other hand, weathered plenty of first half pressure to take a precious lead into half-time as Prynn latched onto a Grant through ball and fired past Cory Harvey in the 38th minute.
Neutrals in the crowd probably expected a fightback from the visitors in the second half but that was firmly swept aside as Grant produced a fine finish from Burns’ free kick – a training ground set piece – to make it 2-0 four minutes after the restart.
But the biggest roar of the night came in the 57th minute when the home supporters drooled over Burns’ brilliant finish from 18 yards which extended their lead.
To their great credit, Mousehole continued to dominate possession and in Hayden Turner they always offered a serious threat along the left flank. But on several occasions his excellent crosses were not seized upon by team-mates.
Turner eventually decided to go for goal himself five minutes from time, cutting in from the left to curl a stunning 25-yard shot over Oak and against the bar.
Mousehole’s exceptional level of fitness was demonstrated as they were still searching for a goal with the game moving into four minutes of time added on, during which Tavistock keeper Oak produced two of his best saves of the night.
The emphatic scoreline was perhaps unfair on Jake Ash’s side but take nothing away from Tavistock. From back to front I couldn’t see a weakness and there were superb individual contributions from Oak, Burns, Callum Watson, Lewis Daw, Prynn and Grant.
They go again on Friday night when Bridgwater are the visitors to Langsford Park (1945ko) in a league fixture brought forward from Saturday.
