LEAGUE ONE Plymouth Argye 2 Ipswich Town 1

argyle logo2013Plymouth Argyle soared to the League One summit with a 2-1 comeback home win over pacesetters Ipswich Town.

From the edge of the area Morgan Whittaker hit a thumping 75th minute winner, which took a slight deflection off Town’s Lee Evans.

Argyle had levelled with an equally good strike from Bail Mumba on 69 minutes, his shot nestling in the corner just out of the range of full-stretch keeper Christian Walton.

Walton like Ipswich scorer Freddie Ladapo is a former Argyle player.

Ladapo put Ipswich ahead in the 39th minute with a shot which took a deflection off home central defender Dan Scarr and looped over stranded Argyle number one Michael Cooper.

Both Cooper and Walton had busy afternoons, making vital saves.

The Argyle keeper made a brilliant one-handed stop to keep out substitute Tyreece John Jules’ deflected shot from the right.

Walton made an equally good full stretch save to deny Whittaker in the 73rd minute as Argyle went in search of a winner.

There was little Walton could do about Whittaker’s thumping winner two minutes later.

The Cornish keeper did have a thumping header come back off the underside of the bar in stoppage time.

With opposite number Cooper getting enough glove on the ball to turn it on to the frame... and ensure a top of the table win.
