Last Saturday, Millbrook went into their home game against Ashton & Backwell having gone seven games without a win.
This Saturday, Macca Brown’s boys were celebrating their third win in eight days after an excellent result at Welton.
It’s a funny old game.
Millbrook’s mini revival was tested by a ninth minute Tom Diamond goal for the hosts before Ben Goulty’s 66th minute equaliser set up a storming finish.
Star man Josh Toulson dived in where it hurts to put the visitors 2-1 up with three minutes of normal time to play.
And Kieran O’Melia put the icing on the cake with a breakaway goal in the dying seconds of 11 minutes of time added on.
Brown said: “We anticipated a really tough game, because firstly all away trips are in this league; but also we acknowledged Welton have been on a fantastic run recently with four wins on the spin.
“We really empathise how important working hard is in our changing room, and I’m so proud we have a team that does on a weekly basis. You can’t dismiss how key quality is as well, as that ultimately is the difference between winning games and not, and we’ve come up short a few times in that area in games this season.
“I thought we defended brilliantly from that point, the referee found close to 11 minutes stoppage time from somewhere, but we dealt with a bit of pressure in such a composed fashion, particularly in and around our own box, and managed to get that all important third on the break.
“We set ourselves a target of a perfect week of three wins and that’s what we’ve got.
“It’s been a real club effort with a number of our regular reserves helping out and even myself dusting off the boots for 10 minutes yesterday, but the players have been fantastic and hopefully we can build on this now.”
Next up for the Brook? Unbeaten leaders Bridgwater – 13 wins and two draws – at Jenkins Park next Saturday.
You just never know in football.
